FERTILITY SUPPORT

A Holistic Approach to Fertility
In the journey toward parenthood, acupuncture can be a good ally for couples trying to conceive. This natural method, rooted in Chinese Medicine, helps improve the chances of pregnancy without placing any strain on the body. For women, treatment begins by regulating the menstrual cycle, increasing blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, and reducing stress—creating a more welcoming environment for new life.
What’s standing in the way of your dream?
There are many reasons why couples today may struggle to conceive naturally. In some cases, the causes of infertility remain unknown. At the same time, more and more couples are choosing to have children later in life compared to previous generations. The body’s natural aging process is an important factor that can reduce the likelihood of conception. Other contributing factors include modern lifestyle habits, environmental pollution, toxic substances in personal care products, plastic exposure (even found in placentas), poor diet, obesity and stress. In particular, stress takes a heavy toll on a woman’s physical and emotional health, often creating a vicious cycle of anxiety and disappointment.
Supporting Fertility Treatments (IVF, IUI)
According to several studies published in recent years, acupuncture can enhance the effectiveness of assisted reproduction treatments. While more research is needed to fully confirm these findings, acupuncture as a complementary therapy during IVF appears to increase the chances of conception. Specifically, acupuncture aims to regulate the menstrual cycle and reduce stress through hormonal balance. It also improves blood circulation to the uterus and ovaries, making the reproductive system more receptive.
How does stress affect fertility?
Cortisol is the main hormone involved in the stress response. When its levels are chronically elevated, it can disrupt the hormonal systems essential for fertility in both women and men.
Cortisol suppresses the normal function of the axis that regulates reproductive hormones:
- It reduces GnRH from the hypothalamus.
- It reduces LH and FSH from the pituitary gland.
- As a result, estrogen and progesterone decrease in women, and testosterone decreases in men.
This can lead to ovulation disorders or reduced sperm production.
Effects on female fertility
Increased cortisol may cause:
- Amenorrhea or irregular menstrual cycles.
- Anovulation (lack of ovulation).
- Difficulty with embryo implantation due to endometrial disruption.
- Higher risk of miscarriage when stress is intense and prolonged.
Effects on male fertility
High cortisol can lead to:
- Reduced testosterone.
- Lower sperm count and decreased sperm motility.
- Possible sexual dysfunction, such as reduced libido.
Acupuncture sessions effectively reduce stress
During acupuncture treatments, the body releases substances such as β-endorphins and serotonin—the “well-being” hormones—as well as dopamine, which enhances the feeling of pleasure. At the same time, adrenaline levels (the stress hormone) decrease, and cortisol secretion from the adrenal glands is regulated, contributing to deeper relaxation of the nervous system.
