CHRONIC PAIN-HEADACHE

What is the mechanism of action of acupuncture in pain management?
The insertion of the needle into the body stimulates the production of opioids (β-endorphins), which help reduce pain and inflammation. The effect of acupuncture can also be explained by the “Gate Control” theory, according to which the pain stimulus can be blocked along its pathway through the spinal cord and not transmitted to the brain.
Can acupuncture treat long-term problems with severe pain?
Over time, certain areas of the body, such as the neck or lower back, become strained and muscle spasms develop. When needles are placed at these points, the spasm is gradually released. In acute injuries, relief is immediate, as the therapeutic effect occurs very quickly. In cases of chronic pain, the results are also excellent, although a few additional treatment sessions may be required.
Is acupuncture scientifically supported with regard to pain?
Acupuncture is now supported by studies published in major medical journals such as The Lancet, Pain, and others. Otherwise, it would not be reimbursed in countries such as Germany, where insurance funds cover only treatments that are scientifically documented.
Can acupuncture be combined with medication when the pain is severe?
Especially at the beginning, when the pain is intense, acupuncture can be combined with oral or injectable painkillers without any side effects. In this case, medications
and acupuncture act synergistically, offering the patient significant pain relief and a calm, restful sleep.
In addition, pharmacopuncture (the injection of analgesic and anti-inflammatory medications), electroacupuncture, or cupping therapy (vacuum suction with cups) may be applied, further accelerating the therapeutic outcome.
Acupuncture and Headache
Medical acupuncture is a safe and effective complementary therapy for the management of tension-type headaches and migraine. It works by regulating the neurophysiological mechanisms of pain, enhancing the release of endorphins and reducing muscle tension, particularly in the cervical (neck) region.
At the same time, it contributes to the regulation of the autonomic nervous system and the reduction of stress, factors that are often associated with the onset of headaches. Within the framework of an individualized treatment plan, acupuncture can reduce the frequency and intensity of headache episodes and improve patients’ quality of life.
Acupuncture and Neck Pain (Cervicalgia)
Medical acupuncture is an effective complementary therapeutic option for the management of neck pain (cervicalgia). It acts by modulating pain mechanisms, stimulating the release of endorphins and reducing muscle tension in the cervical and paraspinal muscles.
In addition, it improves microcirculation in the neck area and contributes to the reduction of inflammation and muscle spasm. Acupuncture also helps regulate the autonomic nervous system, reducing stress, which often exacerbates symptoms.
Acupuncture can decrease the intensity and frequency of pain, improve functional capacity, and enhance the quality of life of patients suffering from neck pain.
